In her Director's Note, Neelam says, "In The License, we have tried to explore the devastation brought upon women and families during migration, loss and devastation. Working on Manto and Brecht meant that I had to traverse the complexities of linguistic and cultural transferences. Both the writers have a deep sense of humanism and a modernity that seemed neither dated, nor trapped in regional boundaries."
